About this business
Our journey began in July 1983 when Hal and Jean Neiman moved their family to Alpena Michigan and opened Alpena IGA with their partners and 46 energetic, engaged, and determined staff. In 1997 Hal and Jean bought out their partners and we become Neiman’s Family Market. Between 2007 and 2013, we added 3 stores; in Tawas, St. Clair and Clarkston. In 2020 we made the business decision to close our store in Alpena, however, our famous Neiman’s bagels continue to be produced and shipped from Alpena to our other locations.

My personal favorite place to get groceries in town. The fine gents at the meat counter will custom cut to order. There is ample produce to choose from. And the check out clerks are the nicest in town with pretty fast check outs. Wal-Mart may have more but there's something to be said for hometown shops!

Every time I visit East Tawas I am always so happy to see that Neiman's is still there! Great selection, clean store, and good prices. Bakery is the BEST! Employees are very nice and helpful....
It's a supermarket, but it's the best you're gonna do within about 2 hours of here. The market itself is a step up from Walmart, slightly higher end selection of everything, including beer. Surprising selection of micros and imports. Large selection of regular Bells, Arcadia, Founders. Larger brewers, Leinies, Berghoff, Guiness, the usual exports. They appear to get some limited stuff too....
